Empathy
We may feel empathy for individuals or members of a group who have not met their basic human needs. When you consider the problem of eating disorders discussed in the speech "Body Image Disturbance," which is excerpted with the video clip on this page, reflect on how you might feel empathy for a person experiencing an eating disorder.
On what level of Maslow's hierarchy of needs do you feel the empathy? Biological, safety, meaningful relationships, identity, or self-actualization? Explain your answer.
